Watchmen! YES, One of the best movies I have ever seen. Takes its source material very seriously. Based on a graphic novel. All adults should see this great movie, concepts dealing with dientology, utopia, quantum mechanics, the nature of evil and much much more. Be warned however that this movie is a STRONG STRONG R Rating. It contains graphic bloody violence, burning with oil, of a very tastefully done, but graphic sex scene. DO NOT WATCH with the kiddies around. I also highly reccomend getting it, or renting it on blu ray, it has better special features, and movies always look better on Blu Ray.

Haven't seen a good movie in a while. Anything good lately? Particularly comedy or suspense?

Have you seen Hitch (with Will Smith)? We just watched that recently and thought it was pretty funny and not too indecent.

Yes... we've seen Hitch and liked it.
Love the Ellis Island scene. Classic.

Finally saw Gran Torino and we really liked it (despite a few quibbles). Nice to have some redemptive themes to ruminate on.

Over the last two weeks I have seen 3 movies. With everything going on with Laine's Grandmother I found that movies were a good distraction.
Zombieland- Hilarious
Inglorious Bastards- very good, and has a lot of subtitles
District 9 - Was not what I expected, but still worth watching

Ha. Robin. I went and saw Inglorious Bastards here in Mexico. I should have realized that a Nazi movie MIGHT PERHAPS have some German in it. So... Spanish subtitles. Oops. Oh well - I understood most of it.

Zombieland was hilarious If one wants to consider it a spoof film, I think it's the best spoof I've ever seen. It didn't take itself TOO seriously, but it didn't act like those "Epic Movie" type debacles, either. District 9 was probably the best value I have ever gotten for my money. Not only was is about 1000x better than I expected, but it was just plain, flat-out COOL. Maybe only because I'm a guy I loved some of the little things that may have grossed a few people out, but it was unique and I really appreciated it. I was captivated for most of that entire movie. (Perhaps that I saw GI Joe, Transformers 2 and D9 all around the same time helped to scale them, but D9 was the best, GI Joe I thought was very entertaining, and I basically hated Transformers 2.) I just saw Extract (moral issues aside, it mostly lived up to its billing as "a new Office Space, only funnier" - but I am pretty partial to Office Space so I can't give this the win over it.) Also saw Couples Retreat - funny, some good points in the end, but overall it was just good not great. The Invention of Lying - I was disappointed in the message (it's very atheistic, which makes sense since the film's star/writer/director Ricky Gervais is a vocal atheist - something I did not know until after seeing the film.) But it was a very interesting and unique idea, again something I appreciate. Worth a watch if you are strong enough in your beliefs to let yourself think about the implications and have a good discussion afterward.

Rose and I watched Crash last night and liked it. It was far more redemptive than I expected.
The scene between the Persian man and the girl was profound.

Just saw Avatar!
Visually stunning, such a rich and lively environment (the planet Pandora, that is).
I recommend this movie to anyone who can stand a 3 hour movie in the theater. It was incredible.
