Yes you are wrong. Where did I say that? It's just that listening to her music reminds me of how sad I am about the current news. Of course I can still recognize and appreciate the truth in it. You're the one who brought up the hypothetical question. I gave my hypothesis on why he said that, and I think it's a sound one.

Wow. Just re-reading this. This sentence sounded a bit curt. That was unintentional

Yeah, and you know how thin-skinned I am. Ok, so I'm feeling a bit lost now. I'm not going to go back and re-read the thread, but for some reason, something you wrote made me think you had a block there. Of course you do. I wouldn't respect a man who didn't believe his own hypothesis.

I just saw that Knapp is playing the Aladdin Theater on Tuesday night. Anyone going? Annyone willing to ask her what she thinks and report back?

I would go. However, it wouldn't be for a love of her music, because I'm not all that familiar with it.
What she thinks about what exactly?

About her how she mixes her Christianity and her homosexuality, about how she sees herself (as a minister or not?) etc. The report of her coming out is what triggered this discussion. (of course I am being tongue-in-cheek here, can you imagine? "Ms. Knapp, I'm from the ACF Board, may I ask you a few very personal questions?"

I don't see the point in asking her. She obviously thinks it's right.

Ahhh I get it. You'll have to pardon my dullness...I'm a little slow sometimes. But yeah, I'd say she's publicly made it pretty clear what she thinks. I would still see her show though.

I'd want to go, but can't afford the 20.00 a head... nor is the concert environment likely to be too good for my currently disabled self! I'd love to have a conversation with Jennifer about all this, but it would be more of an interest in how her journey has been thus far rather than an attempt to convince her of something.
So I have a few thoughts but this thread has gotten long and rambly.............. Here are a few more rambles from my brain.
A) I am uncomfortable/grieved with how the LGBT community perceives Christianity and individual Christian responses to wards them. This was really well represented in the article Kirby posted.
B) I think that the Christian community is largely (but not wholly) responsible for this. (Makes me think of the old adage, Seek first to understand, then to be understood.)
C) I absolutely believe that God delights in using imperfect people and situations. (good news for all of us!) In my life God speaks to me through many avenues> Some expected sources, some really unlikely ones. If you are seeking him, he will be found by you.
D) regarding my troublesome question of using her music, It was a question intended to stir conversation a bit....... I would have been surprised to see Trinity disappear from our play list, but I also know that is exactly what has happened at many churches and Christian radio stations. I also suspect that there are some within our own ACF community who might be uncomfortable with continuing to use her music. As for me, I still think that Kansas was one of the most influential albums in my "returning".

Sarah, You'll be pleased to know that Trinity was on the play list today. However, we ran outta time (all this spontaneous prayer stuff got in the way ) so we didn't actually get a chance to play it. But it was on the list. How about you K-Love? Kudos Josh.

Are the christian radio stations concerned they would be perceived as promoting homosexuality if they played her songs?

Larry King interview with Jennifer and some evangelical pastor and Ted Haggard. Super painful cacophony of bad arguments from all sides. Jennifer can hardly form a coherent sentence about what Scripture says about the issue (or even utter the word Christian), the evangelical pastor attempts but fails in his apparently poorly prepared arguments, and Ted Haggard just wantonly throws out huge sections of Scripture in a cheap-grace fest. Watch it and you'll see why this discussion is so relevant for the Church today.

So does Derek Webb approve of Jenn's decision? Time for you to start crying, Chris

hmmm, interesting interview.
I confess that I have never watched Larry King all the way through. (he's kind of a dult) Thinly vialed attempts for tabloid info that has nothing to do with the confessed purpose of the interview....
That said I think it is interesting that Jennifer regularly referred to herself as a person of faith rather than as a Christian. Especially since her whole premise was that you can be both a lesbian and a Christian at the same time. I wonder if the change of terms is intentional?
The second is that if I were Queen of the World and could force everyone to do what I wanted, one of my first decrees would be that no Christian can use the whole "Adam and Steve" phrase ever again! I find it soooo offensive and on the level of grade school playground verbal insults and certainly not an intellectual argument for anything. To me using a stupid statement/argument like that voids everything you have said before and after!
As for Ted, he still sounds like a televangelist to me....

Jennifer also said, "You can't control what inspires me to look to the heavens or to look to the gods. That's odd. I thought she had a faith in God not gods?
And Derek Webb. It's great if he wants to be a friend to her, but I hope he's not promoting homosexuality....touring with her kind of means he's approving it.
