I've got a picture of me sitting on a ball in front of a TV (I'm guessing that I am about 2-3 years old) and Carter is on the screen. My guess is that this is the election campaign of '76 or shortly after Carter took office.
I know that I saw Star Wars twice in the theaters, but the second time was the second run through the theaters in '79 preparing audiences for Empire Strikes Back (which I saw 3 times in the theater - the last time my Aunt dragged me out of the theater during the big reveal!) I also watched the horrible Star Wars Christmas special on an 8" Black and White, but it was all good because I was a 5 year old who couldn't get enough at the time.

Wow. I can't believe I've never heard of it and after reading the reviews now I really want to watch it BAD!
Oh, and I'm really a middle-of-the-road Star Wars fan anyway.

You guys that are just barely remembering Chernobyl and Challenger are making me feel very old So do you feel extremely old if you hear about those of us that don't remember either? I am always amazed to hear how far back people's memories go and the kinds of things they remember. I should remember the Challenger, I was 6, but I have no recollection of it.

Mo, I'm curious about your memories of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Mo, I'm curious about your memories of the fall of the Berlin Wall. What if I told you, that I can't recall anything? I know that I was aware that Germany was split because I took some weird pride in the fact that "my side" was bigger than the other side and that I was amazed of how small either part was on the globe. haha. I also remember how one year prior to the fall of the wall a girl from East Germany, who's family had fled only weeks earlier, was integrated into my elementary school class. The teacher asked us to be very sensitive with her because she had gone through such hard times and I remember how we were exremely kind to her. But the event of the fall of the wall itself... blank. I've seen the images so many times already I can't tell.

Not really a specific event, but I really had the "Red Scare" when I was little. I wasn't worried as much about nuclear war, but i was worried about Russian take-over. I had nightmares about foreign soldiers kicking in our door and taking our freedoms. I worried that I might be separated from my family. This was all in teh early 80s. Did anyone else have a similar fear?

I definitely remember this. However, for me it was more romantic excitement than fear. Brian, Lincoln, and I were pretty thrilled at the prospect of having to "head for the hills, live off the land, and fight commies" (ala Red Dawn). We even had our packs ready with supplies should the apocalypse begin.

I remember going with my parents to the Bagdad Theater on SE Hawthorne, and how shabby looking the place was (this was before McMennamins remodeled it). And I remember being scared during the movie - the 1979 animated version of "The Lord of the Rings". My dad really enjoyed the movie and the books, and I remember when we got the board game and playing it at home.

Brian,
I loved theaters like the Bagdad and Hollywood as a kid. There was something so spooky, mysterious, and awe inspiring about them to me, like the phantom of the opera or something. I especially liked the GIGANTIC curtains all over the place and the big staircases. (whoa, what a blast from the past).
Thanks for that memory.

Will I really annoy people when I tell them the earliest truly historic event I can remember is 7/7(London Bombings) I think I've got some vague memories of 9/11 but distinguishing memories and documentaries isn't my thing. I was only four when 9/11 happened. I also remember David Cameron and Barack Obamas elections. Oh and theres Michael Jacksons death.
