I've been listening to the Bible on CD (thanks Sarah) and just got through Exodus. In listening to all the details about the tabernacle for the Ark of the Covenants (and even the Ark itself) I find myself perplexed. The first thing that perplexes me is that in chapter 20, God tells the Israelites to build "simple alters of earth", yet He then gives all these details to Moses about building this tabernacle? It seems weird to me. Then, all I could think as I was listening to the details (even though I fast forwarded through some of them so as to not fall asleep while I was driving) was how on earth could Moses ever remember all those specifics?? I mean the guy was up on a mountain, no VCR, no tape recorder, no stenographer. I guess I find it hard to believe that God would give such specific details for so many things (the Ark, the table, the lampstand, the tabernacle). Could it be that they just built all these things and then all the specifics were written down later? I would buy that Moses had a dream/vision of what everything was supposed to look like and maybe he wrote down all the details.

It seems to me that women were, basically, to do whatever her father or husband (whoever had "possession" of her at that time). How did that change? And is it a Biblical thing that it has changed? I know this may ruffle some feathers and cause some heated discussion since we have such strong women in the group, but I also think it's very important.
