I drive past a United Methodist church every day and often ponder their sign. This week it's:
"God bless the whole world, no exceptions"
which got me thinking about God's words to Abraham:
"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.", which contains two simultaneous truths in tension. All people, without exception, are truly blessed through the Incarnation of the Son of God, Abraham's seed. But, on the other hand, what are we to make of the statement that those who curse the people of God will themselves be cursed? If the Church is True Israel, then in what ways might this continue to be true? Can we see this in effect through church history?
