Whether you are a believer or not, what faith-related questions have most vexed you?

Over the years there have been a number of them. Some have been resolved, others have not.
The first was the issue of Creationism vs the Theory of Evolution. But for the love and patience of God I would never have become a Christian because, as someone with a background in science (and a firm believer in evolution), I just couldn't wrap my brain around the whole "abacadabra poof there is life" idea, and if that wasn't true, then all the rest of it was hokum too. God and I agreed that we could table this question for later while I examined some of the other stuff. This issue was resolved at least for the most part during the first week of "History & Literature of the Old Testament" a couple of years after I became a Christian. It was this same class which brought about my first faith crisis: The professor taught that God calls women to be sexually faithful to one man for her entire life, whereas the same was not true of men. How could I believe that God loves me as much as the person next to me if that person happens to have a thingy, when he holds us to such different standards.

I have to ask, if you don't mind- where in the heck was this? What was the religious background of the prof? On another note, I can't remember if we've ever discussed this before, but do you hold to "theistic evolution" or some form of it? This isn't a trap, btw. I myself am somewhere on the spectrum from "old earth progressive creation" to "directed theistic evolution".
