This is one of those Psalms that has always challenged me because it is so far from the world that i live in. It is all about the law and i dont understand law.
I think though that i am starting to grasp the heart of this wonderful psalm. Normally i associate law with legalism pharisees and the like. But here in this psalm the repeated phrase is ¨save me according to your word or promise.¨This is not a legalism, a jumping through hoops to get what you want. At its core this psalm is about relationship. it is very personal. This is not law that separated but a law that is love that draws together.
I love verse 159 that reads.
"Consider how i love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.
Here the law and love are intimately bound together. You cannot separate them. This is a very different picture of law that i am used to and i find it very refreshing. It seems to be to reveal the real meaning in what God was doing in Exodus - Numbers. It is all about love and relationship.

Oh my gosh, I love this Psalm. I read it a few months ago and it made me think about obedience out of love and how that is so different than obedience out of the sake of being obedient. I completely agree with you, Douglas, that it is about the intertwining of love and law not about legalism. I think this is one of the most beautiful of the Psalms. I can just hear and feel the passion and love in the author's words.
