Apparently Christopher Hitchens died today  May he be granted the grace of Aslan to the dwarves in the stable. |

In the Chronicles of Narnia, C.S. Lewis, who had a special place in his heart for genuine atheists (those whose doubt alone and not their prejudices held them back), represented them as dwarves who eventually made it into Aslan's country though they didn't know it, with the hope that they would eventually discover where they were ( The Last Battle). I suppose an atheist could either be insulted by the comment or consider it the highest respect a Christian could honor them with. Depending on the atheist  I'm no judge of the secrets of men's hearts, but Hitchens did seem much more genuine to me that certain other atheist blowhards like Dawkins. And yes, there are blowhards on both sides of the argument, so no need to go there. |

Thanks for that explanation. The term 'genuine' could hardly be more apt than when applied to Christopher Hitchens.
Richard Dawkins appears to irritate quite a lot of people. I know atheists that find him annoying and a bit full of it. Though I must admit that I like him.

I finished the Collision DVD. I have to say that Hitchens was better and stating his side of the argument than the Christian Doug Wilson.
However, Hitchens didn't describe himself as an atheist, but rather an anti-theist.
He made a startling admission at the end of the DVD that if he were able to convince everyone in the world to abandon religion, he wouldn't do it. He couldn't explain why and he felt that he lost a few respect points with Dawkins for that.
