Phil. 1:29-30 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
There are several references in the New Testament about "suffering for Christ", for which the most obvious context is persecution. But, I'm wondering what you all think about applying the admonition to suffer for Christ to situations in which we are suffering from other causes such as illness, misfortune, etc.. (I'm not talking, however, about suffering for our own sins)
Can we justify applying "suffering for Christ" passages to non-persecution related sufferings we experience?
