Anyone else watching this great doc on PBS? I missed part one, but watched part 2 last night. It dealt with the split of christianity over slavery, Lincoln's faith, the immigrant Jews and how they reformed into a distinctly American Judaism, and finally the emergence of Fundamentalism: William Jennings Bryant and Clarence Darrow. Great stuff. There was also some discussion about how denominationalism is distinctly an American phenomenon, how the attitudes of Americans after the Revolution transcended into religiosity: If you don't like how I worship or read the Bible, I'll just break away and do my own thing. These historical perspectives tie into the Unchristian perceptions, I think. History seems to show what some perceive to be true, and as we continue in teh future, how will we respond? The series is available to watch online, I highly recommend it. I hope to watch the final installment tonight, if my homework gets done.

I caught just a tiny bit of it last night before I realized I was getting tired, and when I get tired when I have a cold I begin to hack one of my lungs up. It looked pretty good, and I wanted to stay up, but couldn't...
I'm not sure denominations are a strictly American thing... Orthodox vs. Roman vs. Luther vs. Church of England vs. all the other little bits that split off... and weren't the Pilgrims here because their denomination couldn't fit in with what was going on in Europe?
