All right, 2010 has started and it's time to start reporting on movies you have seen this year.
Faith Like Potatoes - It has your typical campy Christian acting, but the story is great!! It's about a man who moves from Zambia to South Africa in the 70's because the violence in Zambia is too much. He starts a farm with his family in Zululand and becomes a Christian while living there. We get to watch his faith grow incredibly even in the face of everyone around him thinking he is crazy. I guess I liked it a lot because I am in that place right now.

Denice and I just finished the HBO mini-series on John Adams....riveting!
I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. It's available on Netflix.
I was very surprised how much I got into this series. From the reviews I've read, it seems that it is reasonably accurate as well.
If so, it the producers sure did a great job of putting some living, breathing, flesh on American history. What a time.

It's been sitting on our instant watch netflix queue due to Robin's recommendation. But we never seem to be emotionally ready to watch it.

I watched a film last night called "Amreeka". It is about a Palestinian woman and her teenage son who move to rural Illinois (where her sister lives) and their struggles with starting a life there at the same time we were invading Iraq. It is aimed at the stereotypes and assumptions people have of them (they're Muslim, they're Iraqis, they're terrorists) because of the way they look. I wish it had gone a little deeper, but it was an enjoyable movie.

Rose and I watched Hurt Locker last night.
Very good.
I'd give it almost 4 stars!
Does anyone know why it's called Hurt Locker? Does it have something to do with the main character's addiction to "wearing the suit"?

Rose and I watched District 9 last night? Did anyone else see it? Thoughts?
All in all, I liked it. I'd give it 3 stars. Interesting concept, very visceral film.

Josh, I just watched District 9 yesterday too! I liked it, and was surprised how well it looked for a low-budget production. I thought is was a bit formulaic and predictable though. I also watched a fun doc called "Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox" about the history of the soap and his ALL-ONE-GOD-FAITH rants about the Moral ABC on the labels. Interesting guy.

Yeah, it was a bit predictable. Felt like Wall-E at times too But still a good watch. I think the whole Dutch culture in S.A. is crazily fascinating.
