To which I would, again, say that the modern media armed with the philosophical writings of the Enlightenment and modern democracy wouldn't allow a leader to commit the same types of atrocities as were committed by rulers of the past. However, when one considers what Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot et al engaged in within the past 100 years... are we really that much better. Shoot, if you listen to the likes of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, it seems as though the US is responsible for the most reprehensible wrongs in human history! (However, I don't pay much attention to Wright)
