So, I just purchased a new audio book for my long commutes. This time around it is the ancient Roman historian Tacitus's Histories.
It's ten hours of lively and extremely detailed history of AD 69 (the "year of the four emperors") full of intrigue, betrayal, bloodshed, signs and portents, etc.. Good for the whole family.
Anyway, I thought I might post a response or two on the much underpopulation history sub-forum.
Thought from Tacitus for the day:
Modern political crimes and scandals in the Western World are like childsplay compared to monotonous litany of corruption in the ancient world. We ought to be extremely thankful.
Centuries of soaking in the Christian message (among other factors) have in the long run overall brought about tremendous change for the better in the world. And we reap the benefits every day.
