Have any of you seen "Amazing Grace" (the film)? It just came out on DVD.
Rose and I watched it last night and I was very impressed. I still sometimes have some doubts about whether films with Christian backing are going to demonstrate quality that is competitive with the rest of the film industry, but those doubts have (happily) been melting over the last several years with the release of several films dealing with Christianity in some way which have either been really good or even top notch.
I thought Amazing Grace was well filmed, with excellent acting (didn't hurt that it had some big names in it), and most of all, well written.
Very compelling, and if you don't, as a Christian, know the story of William Wilberforce, you simply have to see this. Honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of many better examples of how we as Christians ought to live our the Lord's prayer (thy kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven) than the life of Wilberforce. His story embodies what it means to "count the cost" of serving Christ and the endurance that is necessary to "run the race set before us".
It was very moving to me in light of my own calling, and I'm sure would be to others.

I've been meaning to see that, and then I forgot all about it. Thanks for reminding me, I'm going to put it on my list right now.

Sarah and I saw it in the theater, and found it to be powerful without being blunt or obvious. Very well written and acted, and fascinating historically. Good song, also. Transcendant lyrics, and sounds wonderful on the bagpipes!
