Just watched Donnie Darko for the first time last night, finally, after numerous recommendations. Well done, thought provoking, redemptive, and more confusing than Lost. I'm curious to hear other's impressions.

Sorry Josh. I am tired of disscussing Donnie Darko. That is SOOOOO 2001. I liked the directors cut much better, and I loved the Tears For Fears on the soundtrack. I think Richard Kelly is trying to be David Lynch somewhat in that he has weird, off the wall stuff just to mess with your mind, and for people to try to explain it is impossible. It illicits a confused response that can not be fully interpreted. It's hard to discuss. Try Southland Tales. It's even weirder, and suprisingly, decent acting from what I consider to be B-list stars.

I know.... I'm so late on this.
We did watch the Director's cut, so I'm not even familiar with the original.
I've read some websites that I thought made some good sense of the imagery.

Donnie Darko was the first movie I saw at the Foxtower 10. It was a strange movie, I went as teenager with ulterior motives, but my date and I were so captivated by the indescribably weird and interesting stories that my original intent was foiled. So that gives me mixed feelings about the film.
