Ok all, So at the Christmas celebration at my family's home we had an interesting conversation. It turned out to be very telling, so now I will ask all of you!
If you could be there for any moment/event in scripture, what would it be and why?
I chose the moment in creation that God said, "Let there be light." Chandra picked the repentance of the Ninevites. Mom wanted to see the angels with the shepherds and dad wanted to join Peter and Jesus for breakfast on the shore following Christ's resurrection. How about you???

Good one, Sarah! 2 points for you (said with soup nazi accent) I've done a lot of thinking on this and, I know this sounds lame coming from your dad's new mentee ( ) but I couldn't think of a Bible moment I'd more like to experience than the breakfast on the sea of Galillee with the risen Christ (John 21) either. What did Brian say, Brian?

I liked this one. I want to hear what others would say.

I'm going to go with my first instinct on this one. The first one that came to my mind was when Jesus saved the adulteress from being stoned to death by the Pharisees. I would want to know what he wrote in the ground. I wonder if it was something like, "Don't worry. I'm here." I can just imagine the intensity of seeing him look into her eyes. And to see her make eye contact with him, if she even did. To see compassion in action. Beautiful!
So people said what their moments are, but didn't say why. Please expand!

For me, as someone who has experienced both faith and doubt, to see Jesus in the flesh sounds so wonderful.
But I love that story in John 21 because Jesus "sets them up" for a tremendously joyful occasion. It's like a husband planning an elaborate date for his wife. Jesus chooses to appear mysteriously, but in a similar way to when he first met Peter.
I love the outdoors, too, of course, so the scene is all the more powerful to me that it's on the seashore with a campfire and roasting fish.
Lastly, I like how Jesus' tenderness and sternness (think Robin's teaching) both come out so clearly in the way he interacts with the disciples in this story. It's so like how I have felt him to be myself.

One of the speakers at the men's conference I was just at said he'd most like to have experience the John chapter 21 scene as well.
Hey- I'd still like to hear from others on this one.

It's hard to pick one, but I would say that Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus would near the top of the list. A few others that come to mind would be the fall, Jacob wrestling with the Lord, and Samson killing his enemies with the jawbone of a donkey (not for any sinister reasons, but simply to see the power of Samson). Other new testament scenes would include Jesus being confronted with the women caught in adultery, (What did Jesus write?), and the healing of the Gadaren demoniac (Mark 5).

John 20:20-23Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. NKJV
I'd give anything to be a fly on the wall during this scene and see the disciples faces when Almighty God in the flesh "breathes" on them and they receive the Holy Spirit. Better yet, I'd have loved to been in one of their shoes at that moment. BTW, this can be taken as a sneak peak into Easter morn '09

This may sound self serving, but it is in the Bible so it counts. I want to see the glorious re appearing of Christ.
