So, what's your personal reaction to the current economic crisis that much of industrialized/ post industrial world is experiencing? Though we hear presidential candidates say that the U.S. is facing its worst financial dilemma since the stock market crash/ great depression, for many of us I think that doesn't hit home immediately (or maybe not?)
What concerns do you have personally about the "crisis"? How do you think it is or will be affecting you? I'm curious on both American perspectives and the view of those outside the States.
For Rose and I, I guess the biggest concern lies with Rosemary's part-time vocation as a realtor. But that market has been bad for the last 2 years already. Recently it seemed to be picking up here in the Portland area. I guess we wonder what will happen next.
For me, being a teacher with 10 years under my belt, I don't have a lot of concern about job security vis a vis this crisis. I was laid off once when I didn't have any seniority due to budget cuts, but was rehired. These days that isn't much of a concern. The good thing about being a teacher is that it's not a very market-reactive profession.
Still, I don't quite make enough to pay the bills every month, thus the need for Rose to work part-time.
On other fronts, I wonder about what little investments we have and how they might fare (life insurance, PERS, real estate values) Also, I'm curious what you all expect to happen in general with rising prices/ inflation, etc...
I have an expectation that future years will see at least this: tremendous opportunity for the Church of Jesus Christ to "be of good to neighbors both near and far"
