Interesting today, being 9/11, I was thinking as I was driving home that it was hard for me to really personally identify with the tragedy for some reason.
Shortly after thinking that, I happened to hear just a small snippet on the radio of a live recording of a bystanders observation as both planes hit the WTC. Immediately, I was fighting tears.
It's easy to be numb to suffering, especially when it's on TV or didn't affect our lives directly. But I'm glad I actually spent some time today (on the radio, and later tonight on TV) to absorb this horrific event at least to some degree.
Not that this suffering is different than any other suffering. But this event is unique in some ways- especially in its powerful lingering affect on Americans- even on the average, insulated suburbanite.
