Okay, I realize this is like three years late, but did any of you see Terrence Malick's "The New World"? (the story of Pocahontas/ John Smith)
Just saw it and thought it was amazing.
One of my other all-time favorites movies, the Thin Red Line, was directed by Malick.
Both these movies are superbly reflective. They showcase beauty, aren't at all self-conscious about pacing- spending an incredible amount of time just indulging silence and stillness.
Though they both have difficult themes, they are amazingly redemptive. Reflective questions (and lots of scripture) in the form of voice-over broadcast the inner lives of the characters. The acting is great, too.
Sorry I'm not really in any space to write a good review. But I just had to say I loved it.
