Ok so I am bringing this movie forward with some trepidation, because some folks might not be comfortable with one of the aspects of this film, but I keep finding myself thinking about this movie. I would be interested to hear if anyone else out there has seen this movie? I thought there were some real parallels for how the church should respond to those in crisis. I found this movie unexpectedly touching and inspiring.

We just came back from California where some very good friends of ours just raved about this movie. Exactly like you, they said the overall premise could be difficult for some people, but they felt it was a tremendous picture of the Church responding to someone. It seems like its a recent indy movie that hasn't got much press at all. I am very interested in seeing it. Will report back when we do!

Yeah. Same weirded out feeling beforehand, and right when he acquired the doll, but by that point I realized this was not any ordinary dude with a sex toy doll.
I, too, felt inspired and warm and fuzzy from it. And I also felt so great about those church women who treated Lars with the utmost respect. The scene where they come over to his house after she dies and tell him their job is just to sit with him.. I think I cried. This movie was much different than I thought it was going to be, and I'm so glad I saw it.

Who is an ordinary dude with a sex toy doll? I liked it too, mostly for the reasons you guys did, and I was really taken in by Emily Mortimer's compassion for him. I want Emily Mortimer to be my sister in law.

I watched this movie recently. I thought it was very moving as well. I was very much inspired by the way the church reacted to this. While some members of the church were put off in the beginning, they really came around. One of the things I loved about it was that it really gave insight into the mind of someone with some issues to work through. I hear stories at work all the time about kids and their issues, which is just so heartbreaking. So often all that is talked about are the behaviors instead of the reason behind the behaviors. I think this movie really addressed that issue.

Rose and I watched this this week. Wow. If I could I would find a way to squeeze a viewing of the whole movie into my upcoming teaching on "kindess".
Well, at least I bet I'll stick some clips in.
