Well, since I'm languishing at home sick on the first evening of my Spring Break, here's a fact that my doctor dropped on me today:
Your average person gets 2 colds/ flus each year.
In their first year on the job, your average doctor gets 9 colds/ flus.
So do teachers.
Oh, the woes of my profession.

I read a stat not long ago that 1 out of 5 people get sick after a commercial flight over 4 hours long.
I like to think about it when I'm flying back during flu season in a sea of people coughing and the ventilation system is driving recirculated air into my skull.

For those who voted for vomiting:
At least vomiting has the payoff that it feels really good when you're done, right?

I feel like total crap after I vomit. It drains all my energy, leaves a horrible taste in my mouth, my stomach feels it all day and I've popped blood vessels in my eyes a couple of times by vomitting. On top of all that, it usually happens more than once, which freakin' sucks.

I voted for sore throat because I seem to get them a lot, and I hate them.
That being said, I am working with a guy right now who had necrotizing fasciaitis ( the flesh eating bacteria ) that caused his right leg to be amputated to keep it from spreading.
I asked him what his first symptom was, and he said itching. So watch out. As soon as he told me, my legs started itching, and the more I think about it, the more convinced I am I caught it.

Wow, Brian, that disease sounds really scary. I hope it wasn't contagious! ;D
And as far as Alex's info regarding plane trips...totally true and disgusting. Justus has been that 1 in 5, the last 5 times (yes, count them, 5 times in a row) we've flown down to San Diego to see my family. I think the stat should show anything over a two hour flight.
Enjoy that flight back, Alex!

In honor of the swine flu hysteria and the fact that I'm home sick today (no connection there hopefully), I thought I'd revive this thread.

Ugh! I hope you didn't get that from me at men's group the other day. I tried to keep it to myself ... ...

I voted for vomiting, however if migraines and headaches were on the list it would have gotten my vote hands down.

so with you on the migraine train! Of course for me that also includes out of control vomiting..... I hear that some vomit when they get migraines. I'm fortunate enough to have never had that reaction. I used to get migraines at least a couple time a week. Now I take a low dose blood pressure medication (Atenolol), and rarely experience them anymore.

hmmm, I may have to talk to my doc about something like that. I only get the really bad ones 4-5 times a year, but they are absolutely debilitating when they occur. I deal with the more "minor" migraines a few times a month and usually just try to wait them out. Brian has been after me to talk with the doc about a preventative or treatment option. So many health concerns, so little time...

Talk about a role reversal. It's usually the wife nagging the hubby to go see the doc.

Lindsay woke this morning with all of those H1N1 symptoms we have been hearing so much about lately. We will have to wait to see if paranoia proves reality!
