What are/were your favorite Holiday traditions? What did you do as a kid that you now do with your kids? What are new things you do?
Some favorites for me:
- Christmas eve we would open ONE present (usually the crafty one we had made in school or Scouts) and have Birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Each year we would take turns reading Luke 2.
-My mom would alwyas make cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning, some times from scratch, sometimes Pillsbury refrigerated dough. I loved those things and still do that with my wife and whatever guests we have.
-A new tradition is having two Christmases: One with my family (sometimes) or one with my wife's mom and one with my wife's dad and stepmom. Fun.
Most of all I value the time with family. I think that as i get older, the more precious that time is to me.

One Christmas, when I was maybe 8 or so, my parents got a bale of hay and spread it all out over the floor in our basement (It was a finished basement with a wooden floor) We spent Christmas Eve night down there in our sleeping bags on the hay so we could kind of pretend what it would have been like for Mary and Joseph in the stable.
Now that I'm an adult, I think what a lot of work that must have been--especially cleaning it up! But I'm sure glad they did it. My brother and I both have fond memories of that.
