So, I'm teaching yet another new class...
(I now teach Reading, English 3/4, U.S. History, and World Cultures pre 1500 and post 1500)
In my English 3/4 class we are reading a book called The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I highly recommend it. Very spiritual, very Christian, but also very one-world religion (all religions lead to the same God). Either way, it's a great, quick read.
If you've read it, I'd like to hear about what you thought. And I'd like to hear about some of Coelho's other books, if you've read them.

So are you saying it can be interpreted in diverse ways?
What's the basic premise/ plot of the book?

BTW, my current class list is kinda similar:
US History, British Lit, Vampire Lit, European History, Wild West, and Speech and Debate.

That's an interesting list -- Vampire Lit?
How does your schedule work?
The book is a very simple plot about a boy who goes on a journey to discover his destiny. It is a lower reading level, but packed full of spiritual wisdom, parables, some history, etc... It sticks to the Hero's Journey plot line.

In vampire lit. we're readingBram Stoker's Dracula* and then comparing it to and critiquing the recent spate of vampire-inspired novels. *a personal favorite. have you read it?

So, what type of time periods are your classes?
No, but I've been meaning to read it. I'm actually reading again, now that I'm done with my Master's in Education in Reading....

Oh... I see. Ours are 86 minutes. So we have four classes every day, one prep per day.
Wild West... hummmm... that would be kind of cool.

We started with Lewis and Clark and we're going to go through the 1890s.
