I thought it would be interesting to see how people first got connected with Aletheia (either as members or friends, the church or the discussion forums). Who was responsible for the connection and what were the circumstances?

For me, it was late 1995 or early 1996 and Steve asked me to help out with a group he had formed for some young punks interested in Christianity.
This group eventually merged with others who started meeting in our home in the spring of 1996. That was the beginning of TNT: Thursday Night Thing*, which after about 10 years became Aletheia Christian Fellowship.
*At times it was Tuesday Night Thing.

Almost two years ago, Chris mentioned to me that he had been talking on-line through this forum with a pastor that he had much in common with and thought that I would enjoy the conversations on the forum as well. Well, since the recommendation came from Chris I quickly registered and found that I really did enjoy the forum, and different personalities that I found here. I found in josh, someone who was will to discuss topics, in open minded fashion, that would generally be considered heretical and outside the mainstream of Christianity (Universalism, Open Theism, etc.). Since I was not actively involved a church I decided that I would visit Aletheia and see if I would experience the same openness, and fellowship that I had experience on-line. This coming January it will have been two years with Aletheia, and I must say that I am truly blessed to have found the church family that I had been looking for for so long. I'm sure I speak for Laine as well.

I have mostly been involved with large fellowships since becoming a Christ follower. I thought since the church was big, God was on the move. I guess that could be true in a sense but I found that in my situation church became an institution and something you do if you called yourself a Christian. It became obvious to me that after learning more of what it means to follow Christ, that He is more interested in relationship with Him and with other believers. Carrying a lot of personal baggage, I was looking for a place that I can be real. I first heard about Aletheia Church listening to Steve Gregg. I figured that if a church was willing put up with his heresy (joke), ;D that's the place for me. I can only say that I have found a home and you do leave room for senior citizens.

--Oops, I got all wrapped up in Robin's and forgot about me! Paul (my husband,) met Josh when he was teaching with him a couple of years ago at Cascade. Once we visited Aletheia we loved it (and all of you : ) Just wish we could get over there more often than we do right now. BTW, we had a lot of fun with you guys and bocce ball the other day!

Well...let's see...my story goes back about 15 years when in '94 this guy named Josh started paying more and more attention to me: there were letters and poems, tapes with favorite music recorded, pebbles thrown at my 3rd story window at night, late night talks (and etc. )...how could I resist? I've never looked back...

Amy- you gonna post the story of your connection? Oh, and I want to hear from some of the discussion forum folks too (as opposed to the church folks).

I am connected to your church through your super Deacon Brian! He is my brother . . . May God have mercy upon his soul.

Jeremy and I go WAY back and when I moved to Portland he invited me to come check out TNT. Then I got sucked into the vortex once they FINALLY convinced me to play Carcassonne. And even though I have never seen LOTR, I don't like Narnia (I wonder if I am outing myself here) and I think Marley & Me is sadder than Schindler's List they let me stay. It must be because Rose wants a good challenge when she plays nerts.
