Ok, new topic: misheard lyrics.
Can you recall any particular song lyrics that you initially misunderstood?
Here's my latest from the new U2 album:
The songs in your head are now on my mind You put me on pause I'm trying to rewind and replay
I thought line two was:
"You put me on prozac"
Hmmm, I guess you see what you're looking for ;D

I love this kind of stuff! My son's processing differences have the hilarious side effect of making him hear--or say--the strangest things. (Fortunately, he has always had enough self awareness and maturity to also find these funny!) In terms of song lyrics, the one that stands out is Sheryl Crow's "Soak up the Sun," where she sings:
I'm gonna soak up the sun Got my 45 on So I can rock on.
Daniel heard it and sat straight up in the car and said: "MOM, can you SAY that on the radio??" "Say what?" "I've got my .45 gun so I can rock on???"
He was going through a weapons phase. Still is actually...

Can you recall any particular song lyrics that you initially misunderstood? Man, there are way too many! Especially concerning songs in English. The tricky thing when you listen to songs in a foreign language is that you can never be sure whether a weird word is actually weird because you misheard it or because it's a regular word you simply don't know yet. Example: In Simon and Garfunkel's "I am a Rock" the last verse goes like this: I have my books And my poetry to protect me; I am shielded in my armor, Hiding in my room, safe within my womb. I touch no one and no one touches me. I am a rock, I am an island. What I until very recently used to sing along in the second line was: I am sheerolded in my harbor. And it made perfect sense to me. I mean, harbor as a metaphor for a safe place instead of the open sea seemed pretty reasonable (just as reasonable as armor). And "sheerolded" ... well, never heard of that word before, but it sure means something like "to be anchored"... I can tell you stories...

Yes, way too many. Off the top of my head, here's one from when I was a kid... I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all the pop-cycles [s/b obstacles] in my way.
And here's one from CCR compliments of my dear departed friend Linda... Don't go out tonight, well it's bound to change your life. There's the bathroom on the right [s/b a bad moon on the rise] I'm sure I have more to come.

In "If I Could Turn Back Time" I used to hear:
Words are like whale plugs they wound sometimes
It actually says:
Words are like weapons they wound sometimes
.
This made me laugh out loud! I really DOES sound like that. Now I gotta go back and review songs in my head to see what else I have garbled... Robin: "Make me fries"---hilarious!!

Bill Mallonee: "Leaving me somewhat paralyzed.... at least from the heart down"My ears: "Liam Neeson was paralyzed... at least from the heart down"At first I thought some kind of deep reference to Schindler's List was in view here

They just played Jefferson Starship's "We built this city" on the radio. I sang along as usual but when the bridge came I figured that I might have gotten something wrong all these years... The lyrics go like this: "Marconi plays the Mamba, Listen to the radio Don't you remember? We built this city We built this city on rock and roll!" And I always used to sing "My pony plays the mambo"... But how could I have guessed the real lyrics? I haven't got the slightest idea who or what Marconi is.
