(Prompted by an idea from another thread)........ Do you think you tend to see "the glass" as half-full or half-empty? Have you always been that way or did something change your opinion? Do you ever wish you came down more on the "other side"? Does this balance out, compliment or cause you conflict with your spouse? Inquiring minds want to know ;D

In general, I'd say that I used to be more half-empty and have become more half-full, but it definitely depends on the context.

Like josh, I believe context is very important. Things in which I have some control , I tend to see the glass half full, but when I have no control I have to rely on reality, and that tends to dictate my perception. Therefore in some case I am hopeful, in others I don't see much hope. Generally though, I am optimistic.

Half-full, but with the potential to become half-empty at a moment's notice.

Its all about context. Lets say we are talking about a transparent Bucket. If it is exactly half filled with vomit. It is half full. If on the other hand, it is half filled with 8 Karat blue Diamonds from Africa... It is saddly half empty. (Don't get me wrong, I would still accept half a bucket of 8 Karat blue diamonds.

The glass is completely full unless it's in a vacuum. And even in a vacuum it could be argued it's full of light from stars or God or something else the theoretical physicists have come up with.
This is a great first post for me, because it gives you all a good idea of how I think. -Alex (The new guy)

i am more or less indifferent about things:
the glass is neither half empty nor half full, but just at the half way mark.

See, God can use anything true to inspire us Great to have you guys visit today!

Hmm, I would say that I am prone to view the glass as half full, but it tends to leak a bit from time to time (got a few cracks in the side).

My glass is not half full OR half empty. My cup runneth over.

If you think about it, it's the stuff in the cup that we don't perceive (the air) that is most important to us.

Oh, look what a nice thread I started and then promptly forgot all about! lol! Guess I better chime in, hm? Better late than never Your answers are facinating. Since I was born without a Left Brain, I would have never thought to relate this to physics in any way. I think for the most part I'm pretty Pollyanna-ish. i.e. Tend to always find the positive side so that the glass is "half-full." (I would have been the one on the Titanic lifeboats talking about how fortunate we were to be out sailing in the cool night air....) I am NOT saying this has always worked in my favor, but it seems to be the way I am wired. Interestingly, my daughter is just like me and my son and my husband often see cracks all the way around the glass!! (Thanks for the visual, Sarah!) Gotta love those gender lines
