So, Michelle, what do you know about the new U2 album?

I know that I pre-ordered a copy, that there is one single that has been released and that it is good, that there is a song called Cedars of Lebanon that I'm excited to hear and that the Edge is a freakin' awesome guitar player. I'll let you listen to it when I get it.

Umm... that Boots song is ridiculously bad.
I've never been a U2 fan, but I can respect what they do, and I understand why people like it. But.. I think I've lost all respect for them now.

I agree with Meghan about the Boots song. Not a fan of it, but hoping the rest of the album will be good.

OK, just had my first listen-through, courtesy of Michelle.
I really like the album.
At this point, after only one time through, my favorite songs are:
No Line On the Horizon and Magnificent.
I even actually have kinda liked Get On Your Boots after seeing it on Letterman.
Meghan, I'd be looking over your shoulder for the lightning to strike, btw, in light of your outrageously blasphemous comments.

The more I listen to the album, the more I LOVE it. I know that U2 has always woven a Christian message in their albums and this one is no different and even has some more overtly Christian messages. "Once I knew there was a love divine Then came a time I thought it knew me not Who can forgive forgiveness where forgiveness is not Only the lamb as white as snow" Could you get words that sound more hymnish? It is definitely a "Magnificent" album! Josh, "No Line on the Horizon" is one of my favorites too. I have decided that I am going to try my darnedest to go see them if they come to Portland on tour. I don't think there is much that can keep me away. When are we going to get to sing "White as Snow" at church??? ;D

No, what's up?
PS: I did hear about the school shooting near Stuttgart though. Sorry to hear it.

A splinter group of the IRA has shot two British soldiers and another splinter group has shot a policeman. Apparently they want to sabotage the peace treaty and reengage in violence. If the Protestants strike back now hell will break lose. Let's hope they'll hold their horses. PS: I did hear about the school shooting near Stuttgart though. Sorry to hear it. Terrible. Just terrible. And there was a shooting in Alabama too, wasn't there? What is wrong with those kids?

We've had several of them over the last 10 years. We must have exported them to your part of the world We even had one in Oregon a few years back- a kid killed his parents and then shot someone at school.

Well, I was going to take this back to talking about U2, but I feel bad doing so... HOWEVER, The Boots song is still horrible, and the only reason people like it is because U2 wrote it. If some other band or performer did it, it would be considered bad. I stand by my opinion. And saying something bad about U2 is far from blasphemous Unless, of course, you consider Bono to be a god, and many people do.

My final analysis: Get On Your Boots is nearly my least favorite song on the album (there might be one other one), but all the rest are good and some are really great! So it's really unfortunate that Boots was your first listen.
'Nuff said from me.
I'm curious if bfriesen has some thoughts, seeing as how he's the one that really pushed me into post-Joshua Tree U2.
