Sorry Meghan, didn't mean to be insensitive to the fact the snow adversely impacts income for some folks like yourself , .....but at the same time I just can't help loving it. ;D I used to be a mountain rat (in another life). Today, we played in the snow for hours. William and I went for a bike ride and had a blast (I'm surprised how well a mountain bike does in the snow). I even broke out the ole' snowboard. Denice and William are out building an igloo as I write this. I could take this for weeks before getting sick of it. On the flip side, if there's ice tonight, we'll probably be camping out in the basement again.

So....we just had a pretty fun evening without power. We just got it back and I just had to get on and share. I don't know what it is, but I love losing power during snow storms (I was kinda hopin' we would). The boys had fun with flashlights and candlelight and we're "campin'" out in the living room tonight by the fire. We cooked clam chowder outside with our camping stove, and everyone got to have ice cream with dinner tonight (since it was gonna melt anyway ;D ). We broke out the instruments and decided to have camp fire songs, we even made one up. It goes like this: (To the tune of More Love, More Power)
No heat No power There's no lights on at my house
Someone call PGE There's no lights on at my house
So we will dance around To keep ourselves warm
And we will get some candles So we can see
And we will light a fire To make some heat
Cuz there's a snow storm.....there's a snow storm.
I love this stuff. If anyone wants the tabs on that, let me know.

I just need to know what key it's in, that's all. I think the Crombie's have to perform this as a special number next week (or the next week we actually having a meeting that is)
Sounds like you had a blast. The lights flickered here a bit and I kinda thought, "Hey, that'd be cool", but it didn't happen.
Falling branches, power-outages, clam chowder, songwriting! The Crombies know how to party.

no worries chris- I just always have to put a debbie downer spin on any sort of joyful glee when it comes to the snow. Just, you know, putting the reality back into this. Another downer: One of my best friends Stephanie is supposed to fly in on her two week break from work in Mexico tomorrow, so I'm worried about her. She and I are supposed to go to a Blazer game Tuesday night, so of course I'm worried about that, too. There'll be no other chance for a Blazer game this season, I'm sure, so I'm really pulling for some relief from this snow!
Josh- I cannot tell you how Following Sean ends. That is horrible that you should ask.
Last night I watched The Queen with my parents. Today I watched three hours of some show on HGTV, then I read for a good portion of the afternoon. I finished my book "My Life in Orange" by Tim Guest. He grew up in the Rajneeshie communes. SOOOOO interesting. I recommend it. Tomorrow I will continue reading about Rumpsringa.
Tonight my mom and I watched The Three Amigos on tv. Hehe.

Man! We had a foot of fresh powder on the ground today! This rocks. I got first tracks on my hill today, it was like floating on air. The snow is as good as any I've seen on Mt. Hood. I only wish the hill was just a bit steeper though. I only took 4 runs because of the hike up.* But it did cure my itch to go up the the mountain for snowboarding. So I guess that saves me about 50 bucks or so. * I began pondering ways of setting up a rope tow by tieing off on someone's 4x4 or something, but then I figured that'd probably earn me a Darwin award so I quickly dismissed the idea.

Sweet.
Sledding was awesome yesterday. We'll have to give it a go today as well. But you've got some pretty good hills.

I have some great photos from the neighborhood, including proof of Marcus' failed attempt to venture out last night. Maybe someone can tell me how to get the pictures up for us all to see, and laugh at of course. ;D

They could be mirrored from a facebook account. Or you could send them to me and I could stick them on a hidden page on our website and then mirror them. I've got a lot of Marcus' failed attempts to do things on film already though Hee hee (you had to be on the men's group backpacking trip this year)

Does anyone know when the last time we had snow like this was? I can't remember it ever being like this here in my lifetime. I'm getting a little concerned for Steve and Doris' flight in from Germany on Wednesday

This one's called "grit". I hope you were able to save your Arbs. I just got back from having to save the boys' bedroom window from a 20' limb precariously poised to go thru it. I don't know if there's going to anything left of this tree by the time this is all over. I'll be surprised if the house escapes unscathed as well. Argh!

Well I heard on the radio this morning that this is the worst snow storm since 1968. My father said that they received about 3 ft of snow during that storm, but that was in Eugene.

Stephanie's stuck in LA for a few days. She had a San Diego-LAX-Portland flight and they didn't even bother to tell her anything when she boarded at San Diego. Horrible. Hopefully she will be able to get in on a flight on THURSDAY. so sad.

OH yeah - so my parents and I went out today in their minivan. My dad had put chains on. We are staying close to Mt. Scott, and we went to the Freddy's on 148th and Division, and then to my Grandma's house, which is just on the West end of Gresham. Oh my gosh, it was horrible out there. HORRIBLE! There was a huge bus stuck up over the median near 182nd and Powell. The worst was getting into/out of parking lots or side streets where it's easy to get a car stuck in the middle, caught with the deep snow underneath the car.
Aye yi yi.
Oh yeah- and the news says worst snow in 40 years.
i'm crossing my fingers that the Blazer game tomorrow night isn't canceled because I HAVE TICKETS (and was supposed to go with Stephanie).

Here was the first round...6 large limbs in one big twisted mess. Today, I got to try and rescue a limb that had a fallen limb leaning on it and threatening to take it out (Denice calls this one "me not killing myself" ;D). And here is the culprit (it's the one in the middle, hanging by a thread) They don't call 'em widow makers for nothin'

Cool. Nice shots of your lumberjack bravado.
Where'd you mirror your pics from?

Bravado? Must be my human arrogance coming thru. Actually, there's more desperation there than anything. I don't want the tree losing too many limbs on that side, because that weighs it down on the house side. This tree has been the only source of worry (and much praying) for us during this snow storm. P.S. pics are mirrored from my googlepages account. They give you 100MB to do whatever you want with.
