So - Josh and I introduced our favorite pizza, Flying Pie Pizza, to Alex & Aimee tonight (along with Jeremy, who's been there before), and it got me thinking about great food in this city. I'm curious to know some of your faves...
I know it's a chain, but P.F. Chang's is still one of my favorites...and my newest craze is Sweet Potato Pancakes @ Biscuits Cafe. Yummm....

Short list for now:
For [British] atmosphere, an amazing assortment of beers (the most I've seen in one place in Portland), and a wicked cheese plate:
Horsebrass Pub in SE Portland.
For Pizza:
Flying Pie Pizzeria in SE Portland
In Hood River (my favorite other Oregon town):
Horsefeathers Pub- bad service, great food
For near gourmet pub grub:
The Night Lite
Hmmmm, that's heavy on the pub grub. Finer dining later?

Has anyone checked out DaVinci's on McLoughlin? That's one of our favorites for Italian.
Also, Papa's pizza on 162nd and Division doesn't have the greatest Pizza (not bad, just about average), but it's indoor playground makes it a great place for the kids, especially on a slow night.

Thanks for the heads up. Kids areas are prime. You'll especially be needing to think about that soon now that you and the misses won't have enough arms to grab the gaggle, as I understand.

So, tonight we went to a great place in North-Northeast Portland. It's an Irish Pub called "County Cork" It is very relaxed and kid friendly, they have a wall painted dark green that kids can chalk on, and they have various local Irish bands that come in to play in the evenings. We took our kids there this evening. It was a nice time. Had the Doublin Breide (I think that was its name) It was a tasty meat pie, and their Shepherd's pie is also excellent, as was their Stout. Alex had their fish and chips and liked those as well. Rimskey's is also a favorite with us for dessert and a romantic relaxing/eclectic atmosphere (get the big table in the back that rotates!) Not kid friendly though I'm afraid.

Aimee, I seriously hope that taking you to "County Cork" is not Alex's attempt to assuage the injustice of his potential business trip to Ireland. You tell him that someday soon (you know, in like 8 years) it'll be you heading to the real Cork for a nice trip and him sitting in a pub in the Northwest. But seriously, sounds like a great place. Let's go there soon. Rimskey's. Haven't been there in a long time!

Sarah and I have been looking for a good Fish'n'chips place ( preferably with halibut rather than cod). Would you recomend the County Cork's? Does anyone know of anyplace else that is not too greasy?

You know, interestingly, I think the Horsebrass does an excellent job with their fisn'n'chips. Maybe it's just the effect the place has on me, though. Anyway, they seem to be a notch about your typical fish and chips fare.

Just found this thread. Living out in the minor outlying islands of Portland, (Forest Grove,) I am gaining a lot from your experienced palates. (No pun intended.) Seriously, I should copy this out and put it in my purse in the case of a hunger emergency. Our current absolute favorite place in downtown Portland is a Lebanese restaurant called "Habibi"--incredible food, owner has personality plus, big silver ornamental hookahs everywhere. (It doesn't hurt the ambiance that Habibi is translated in English as "Sweetheart"!) I've been there for both romantic dinners and times with my entire family including my little nieces. It is always ideal. May I barter this little gem for a suggestion of your favorite Indian places? The only place currently to recommend in Forest Grove is "Maggie's Buns" pretty ecclectic, great breakfasts, breads and, of course, enormous hot, homemade cinnamon buns. Things change our here every five minutes, though, so hope springs eternal. (We used to have a fabulous Ukranian cafe, but alas, it's gone now )

Sounds good.
I'd have to say that seafood is definitely one of my favorite genres.
Hey, we just ate at a restaraunt in Newport that had one of the best soups I've ever had. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. It was a creamy garlic base with fresh crab.
So, I'm pretty bummed that Rose and I can't remember the name, but it was the most generic name I've ever heard, like "total local seafood" (but that wasn't it because I can't find it on the web). It was owned by the fishermen's wives (some kind of union what-have-you). And it's towards the end of the main drag next to the northern side of the harbor (a couple blocks past the Rogue restaraunt, which I like a lot as well).

Pub Grub: McMenamins Grand Lodge (Ironworks Grill) Mexican: Mazatlan (185th and Cornelius locations only) American: Portland City Grill (Downtown) Steak: Morton's Steakhouse (I like it better the Ruth's Chris and a lot better than El Goucho Seafood: Jakes downtown Italian (PDX) Pazzo Ristorante (at Hotel Vintage Plaza) French: Le Bouchon (Pearl) Northwest Cuisine: TIE! Higgins and The Heathman (both downtown) BBQ: Reo's Ribbs (Whole in the wall off of TV Hwy, follow your nose! Breakfast: (intown) The Buffalo Gap (out of town) Camp 18 on 26 enroute to the Coast Dining with a view: The Viewpoint Inn in Corbett near Vista House Happy Hour: The Portland City Grill Brunch on Sunday:Multnomah Falls Lodge in the Gorge bar (in town) Blue Hour (in Vegas) Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville! Pizza (the original Pizza Schmizza in Forest Grove) Japanese: This is going to sound insane but its actually a beautiful basement in Hillsboro call Syun, very expensive, best Sushi I have had outside of Atlanta's top bars where they fly fish in daily from Hawaii. German: The Rhinelander Restaurant in Hollywood district (NOT GUSTAVS) Chain Restaurant (uggh) Newport Bay (but only because their Japanese stype rare Ahi is to die for.
