This is a Christmas song i wrote last year...it's on our Christmas record, Yonder Shines...
the time signature is 6/8 and standard signature for hymns...it's become one of my favorite songs i've ever penned...
bit of background:
A line out of the chorus was inspired by a line out of T. S. Eliot's The Journey of the Magi, a poem i read in college that still rings holy-true...a bit of contrast with the urban numbness we all feel at times is contrasted with Christ's birth the Hope of the nations.
The complete lyrics are below.
This song is up now at MySpace: www.myspace.com/billmallonee
SO: stop by and visit and listen...and Merry Christmas!

EVERY FATHER KNOW AND CARES WHERE HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS ARE-
music/lyrics: bill mallonee
Yeah, the angels sang the sweetest song...echoing the refrain
Shepherds were up to something...maybe drunk again
No, there probably wasn't any snow...on the ground at the time though the greeting cards show that sort of thing...with a warm and fuzzy rhyme and the stable's neat and tidy...and the hygiene is 5 stars and the
planet it spins lonely...as i step out of this bar
now some are lost in shopping malls...and some on battlefields
some are lost in suburbs...and some on Capitol Hills
some are lost in nursing homes or in a terminal ward
some are equally as lost...between their headphones
but whatever your co-ordinates...on you map of shame
whether near of far away...we're all lost just the same
chorus:
AND THE BIRTH OF BIRTHS WAS LIKE A DEATH UNDER THAT HALLOWED STAR STILL EVER FATHER KNOWS AND CARES WHERE HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS ARE
you may wake up a bit confused...with the ache that's in you heart
doesn't matter if you got there by choice...or got there by default and every birth shall come with tears and with truth there comes a cost
Jesus, what's it like to grow up in the shadow of the cross?
where You take on more than You could know...and more than i'd wanna say i put You there a long time ago and i do it every day...
chorus:
AND THE BIRTH OF BIRTHS WAS LIKE A DEATH UNDER THAT HALLOWED STAR STILL EVER FATHER KNOWS AND CARES WHERE HIS SONS AND DAUGHTERS ARE x2
