Dark, Open Spaces Dread the dark, open spaces The moonlit forest when your friends don’t understand Drive quickly before they overtake you Yet you linger anyway Just over there, that’s where you grew up But you can’t go there now That man is turning left Though he could have kept on straight It could have changed fate Out here on these dark streets Slip past the graveyard The historic thrill sickens the stomach With tense anticipation And unwanted memory Too many lives and stories To feel alone on a night like tonight Joshua Coles April 23, 2001
