Love Potion © 2005 Marc Peter Breaking my back trying to find what I lack for the eighteenth consecutive year Since I fell off the back of the world The sharp, flat edge of reality hit and I met outer space With a shock and a gasp, and I came unfurled I was all wrapped up in the security of childhood, Faithfulness, wonderment, fragility I hit the edge, knocked a hole in my head and all the High ground was lost; all the wheels came off I am a boy of a man wishing he could have been a boy just a little while longer I need a potion to bring back my head and my heart and the mystery that started it all I can't believe this is all there is Barcode analysis shows that I'm in paralysis for the eighteenth consecutive year Forgetting what's past I should strain for the end I should break not just bend to get back my wings Knees and hands and face to the ground; saltwater streams I am a shell of a man begging please won't you wash it away I can't scrape off these scales though I tear and I bleed; make me clean I believe you have more for me

Marc- thanks for your submissions. I really like the flow of Love Potion and can totally see it as a song!
Having recently had some time to 'catch up' with you, both poems have added significance for me.

11/12/06: Hey Josh, thanks for the encouragement and for letting me share some poetry here... just wanted to let you know that Love Potion now IS a song. My new band, Echelon, has been working on it, and frankly, I feel like it is a gift... I think all songs are, but this one in particular really just fell together. I wrote the lyrics about a year ago, and had been trying to write some music ever since, but it just wasn't working very well. Finally one day about 2 months ago, I was just sitting in my room fiddling around on my guitar and it just came out of me. It rarely happens that way for me. I took it to band practice the next week and showed it to the guys and it is one of our favorite songs (collectively). I think it is an anthem for many people who feel "stuck". I hope to post it soon on the internet, and when I do, I'll come back and put a link so you all can hear it.

Hey Marc (and Caleb)
Have to say, although I missed the first couple songs you did the other night at the coffee shop (I was bummed, but, kids, you know), LOVE POTION was one of my favorites. Awesome. I look forward to hearing it again.
We also look forward to you coming to visit us on the Feb. 4th. And again, let the other guys know Echelon would be welcome to come sometime in the future too.
So, Rose and I really want to have Love Potion on CD. When's it coming???

We're working on some recording. Unfortunately, it may be a long process. Both Caleb and I are in school and working full time. All three of us in Echelon have kids and life just keeps throwing new things our way. But never fear, a studio recording is on the way. In the meantime, you can check out some echelon recordings online at the following website: MySpace and PureVolumeThanks, Marc

Hey Marc - I really enjoyed Love Potion as well. I loved the flow of the song and some of the words you chose were really cool! Hurry up and record a single for me! ;D

As I'm fond of doing when I want a visual, I did a google image search for "barcode graph" and I came across this: I was amazed at how well it fits my song!

Marc,
If you're still out there, I just wanted to say...good stuff man! The song "Tired" really struck a chord with me for some reason. Thanks for sharing that.

Hi Christopher, I wish I had time to hang around here at this forum a little more often. I'm working full time and going to school full time, and have a new little baby, so I've been hard pressed to find any spare time. "Tired" is sort of a timeless song for me. I'm no where near the place I was when I wrote it, and yet it still resonates with me in a very deep way when I sing it. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time for writing or performing lately either, but I hope to remedy that when I graduate this May. Catch you later, Marc

Hi Marc, Thanks for your reply. Congrats on the new baby by the way....I got one too. ;D Born on the 10th. Whoa, full time work, full time school, AND a baby? Tired would have to be an woefully inadequate word for you. I feel for you man. Hang in there, May is closer than it seems. God bless. P.S. Great sound on your new Christmas song. Love it.
