Isaiah 1:3
The ox knows his master, the donkey his owner's manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.
I find this verse at the outset of Isaiah chillingly prophetic* of the birth of Christ- the birth of a master that most people missed, except a handful of shepherds, magicians, and an ox and a donkey, eagerly observing him in the manger.
*I use prophetic in a loose sense here

This verse stuck out to me too, but for a different reason. The NLTV states it a little bit differently.
Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master's care-- but Israel doesn't know its master. My people don't recognize my care for them.
When I read this I thought about how Israel was so caught up in their sinful lives that they couldn't see God. The longer we keep sin as a road block between us and God, the harder it is to recognize Him.
