Ah the laws of Spiritual Cause and effect= suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character hope. and hope does not disappoint us. I think hope is an underestimated thing, interesting that it is a byproduct/result of character. Does that mean hopelessness reveals a need for growth in character?
And of course you have to love vs8, what's not to like?
Oh Joy, I just discovered a the spell check feature, no more paranoia!

Quite interesting indeed. We all want to start with hope, I think. This passage seems to indicate that we have to put our 'nose to the grindstone' for some time before we really experience it in fullness. We can't really have strong hope without character built by His "blows and chisels" as Lewis once said.

I really like the way Paul lays it out in the first part of this chapter. Suffering- perseverance-character- hope. It really doesn't get any simpler than this.
At this point I can't help but think right now about all the victims of hurricane Katrina (and by the morning probably Rita too). I've been blessed in my life that I have not had to suffer anything like they have, so it's easy for me to say they should have hope, but I can't even imagine how they get up everyday and push on.
