Face to Face
I think this whole section really drives home two things:
A) that the restoration of intimacy with God (a face to face relationship) is God's main prerogative and mankind's greatest aspiration
B) that the provisions of the Mosaic covenant could only partially attain this goal, leaving the necessity for the work of Christ on the cross

A couple important points that stood out to me from Brian’s lesson on this passage last night:
The Hebrew word for glory implies the idea of ‘something weighty or heavy’, something almost tangible, and is often associated with light or a glow
God’s offer to hide Moses in the ‘cleft of the rock’ prefigured Christ, the Rock on whom our faith is founded, who enables us to see God.
Moses only gets to see God’s back (anthropomorphized) , but in Christ mankind saw God fully face to face (and lived) (see John 1:14 and others)
" 'Listen to me', cried Syme with extraordinary emphasis. 'Shall I tell you the secret of the whole world? It is that we have only known the back of the world. We see everything from behind, and it looks brutal. That is not a tree, but the back of a tree. That is not a cloud, but the back of a cloud. Cannot you see that everything is stooping and hiding a face? If we could only get round in front--' "
GK Chesterton, The Man Who Was Thursday
Also, we (the Church) are now God’s glory (like the glory that resided on Moses).
We reflect His glory and bring glory to him through the way we will our lives (showing thankfulness, doing everything we do for His glory, offering our lives up as sacrifices, not conforming to the world, but being transformed

Well, folks. That covers Exodus. We'll probably move on to Numbers in a couple months (we're taking a break and studying some other things for a while on IC Forum night).
My hope is that what we have here will be a useful resource in the future and that more of you will get interested in joining in on the Bible commentaries/ homework. Feel free and drop by here and post comments even when we've moved on to other books.
