In this chapter a famine comes over Israel and God reveals to David it is because of Saul's breaking of a sworn alliance with the Gibeonites.
David asks the Gibeonites what would make things right, and they respond that they would like to have 7 descendants of Saul handed over to them to be put to death, and David agrees and does so.
Then we are told the famine ceased.
So, a question: is this a situation where God held the sons guilty for their fathers crimes (contra Ezekiel 18, etc..)? Or do you think the sons of Saul that were chosen had volitionally shared in the guilt of Saul's oath-breaking?
