Robin (and anyone else, but Robin because he introduced me to Boyd)-- I'm reading Gregory Boyd's book God at War which was mentioned in the Furious Love video. It's a great read! I find it simultaneously challenging some of my theology and greatly supporting and enhancing other aspects. Robin, were you aware that Boyd has open theist leanings? I think you'd really enjoy this book because of the way it blends thoughts on what God's sovreignty is really all about with our view of spiritual warfare. You'd find a lot of agreement with him there, but also I think you'd find him challenging in regard to the origin and nature of evil/ satan's role, etc.. (basically I think this book would have an equal but opposite challenge/ reinforcement to your perspectives as well ). I don't think I've ever heard a better or more thorough scholarly but realistic analysis of the spiritual war the cosmos is engaged in. I'd love to talk to you and others about this at length some time, but maybe I'll post some more as I read along. If this thread generates any related questions or thoughts, that'd be great too!

I love listening to Greg Boyd. He's fun to listen to and is great at tipping sacred cows.
Boyd is overtly Open Theist, no leaning about it.

Well, at least in one aspect of this book, he's actually lending firmer support to the "sacred cow" of the traditional understanding of satan as rebellious angel.
So he's a really open theist. Or would that be an open open theist?

When you read the book I gave you, you will have a more complete understanding as to where Boyd stands on open theism. In fact he has a website dedicated to the topic. Check it out. www.gregboyd.org/category/qa/open-theism/Another popular theologian that you may have heard of that holds this view are, John Polkinghorne, Clark Pinnock, and John E. Sanders. When you finish the book please put me on your list of people to pas it on to.
