I was saddened to hear last week that Manute Bol, the 7'7" spectacle that played in the NBA in the 90s had died. For those of you that didn't know, Bol gave all of his money to set up programs for his native Sudan, and after his NBA career was over, continued to work and give and work and give. Here is an interesting article that describes his actions: online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704853404575323043046894012.html

Great article. A life well lived.
Any more info on how he died other than a "skin infection that contributed"?

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that being 7'7" and 225 lbs certainly didn't help his health. A few years back, he was profiled in a segment on "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" on HBO where they said he often did not go to the hospital for treatment because it meant time away from working. Also he was broke a lot of the time and could not pay for treatment...he literally gave ALL he had.
Another sad side note: initially he was conned in the Sudan by the government. They more or less embezzeled his money that was to go for building hospitals and orphanages. Despite this, he continued to give, setting up his own foundation. He often was threatened by the government, but that did not stop him.
