So, I was reading a quote by the late noted paleontologist/ evolutionist Steven Jay Gould (that I've read before) and was surprised to find an embedded argument against determinism. In extolling the virtues of "chance" Gould argued that if we could
"wind the tape of life to its origin... and let the tape play again from this identical starting point, the replay will populate the earth... with a radically different set of creatures... Humans are here by the luck of the draw".
Not so, however, if determinism is true. Right, mo?
