There are many evangelicals who do blindly and uniquivocably support Israel- and that's a big problem. Without a doubt. But there are more in the world who blindly oppose Israel. It's a problem on both sides, and because the issue is so emotionally driven we are not likely to see a peaceful outcome.

But this is what the Arab world is seeking. The forced relocation of the Jews into the sea, and they are using the Palestinians as their pawns.
this is what you believe, but unless you know the heart of those who make these decisions, you cannot be certain.
Of course this is true, but Israel needs to respond to the actions of the Government. So those who are not terrorists should be looking to their own leadership if they want to stop the bloodshed. That is where the peaceful Palestinians can have the greatest impact.
I firmly believe that when the history books are written these groups (Hamas, Hezbolla, Plo, etc.) will be equated with the Nazis. They are clearly motivated by their hate and desire to see the Jews destroyed.

Good advice. However, it is the people who suffer, not the government. I guess the same is true of any war.

I wonder if the Washington Times would publish MY open letter to the president?

What would you say?

My point is that Voigt's opinion is not new or unique...he is certainlty entitled to have and voice his opinion...I'm just saying that the only reason it got published is not because it is particularly brilliant, but because of his celebrity.
My possibly new or unique opinion (whatever it may be) would most likely not get because no one knows who I am.

That's true, but each of us have a sphere of influence, and some people are able to gain more attention than others. You can't blame people on either side of the spectrum for taking advantage of their situation.
I don't like the politics or opinion of many liberals in Hollywood, but I don't have a problem with them speaking their mind either. However, they should be aware, as should Voight, that there will be consequences for what they say. People may decide to avoid their product if they don't like their opinions. People like Voight and other famous individuals have more at stake when they speak out. I can voice my opinion here and elsewhere with little or no consequence because very few people will take notice. But Voight may very well have cost himself millions in future earnings by publishing this letter to the President.

It's not necessarily the case withthe Voigt letter, but the danger of giving celebrities a political soapbox is related to the influence the have. Some will respond thusly: "Oh I love Jon Voigt's acting, so I agree with him!" (or any other celebrity's opinion, conservative or liberal) It is just sad to me that people form opinions based on what their favorite musician, actor, teacher, pastor, news anchor et al. says about a particular issue. Don't be a sheep, think for yourself! Celebrity soapboxing perpetuates this. It would be nice if Voigt (or any other celebrity said "This is my opinion, do your own research before you agree with me!"

Back on point: While Voigt makes some logical points, I think he is over reaching claiming large scale anti-Semitism. While there is certainly anti-semites in the world longing for the destruction of Israel, being pro-Palestine or even anti-Israel does not make one an anti-semite. Further, to claim that the Jews brought "most laws we live by" is a stretch.

Here is what Voight said in regards to Israel, and anit-Semitism.
President Obama:
You will be the first American president that lied to the Jewish people, and the American people as well, when you said that you would defend Israel, the only Democratic state in the Middle East, against all their enemies. You have done just the opposite. You have propagandized Israel, until they look like they are everyone's enemy — and it has resonated throughout the world. You are putting Israel in harm's way, and you have promoted anti-Semitism throughout the world.
You have brought this to a people who have given the world the Ten Commandments and most laws we live by today. The Jewish people have given the world our greatest scientists and philosophers, and the cures for many diseases, and now you play a very dangerous game so you can look like a true martyr to what you see and say are the underdogs. But the underdogs you defend are murderers and criminals who want Israel eradicated.
He said that Obama promoted anti-Semetism throughout the world, and I think that is a fair and accurate observation. Obama has embraced Israel, and bent over backward to kiss up to those who seek Israel's destruction. Since Obama is not an idiot, I assume that he is aware of the fact that his actions are encouraging Israels enemies.

I still don't see the connection. Being anti-Israel does not make me anti-semitic. It is not Jews I am against, but rather the government of Israel.

Well your not seeking to destroy Israel either. Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and a number of terrorist groups are seeking their destruction. I have no doubts that they are motivated by their hate for anything Jewish. Not to mention the UN. time after rime the UN, with it's ridiculous resolutions come out looking anti-Semitic.
Got to run. I won't be able to post until Sunday afternoon.
God bless.
