OK, so how about some of of your least favorite Christian cliches/trite sayings? Or perhaps a defense of your favorites? I'll start with a few that kinda bug me: " Don't run in Church. This is God's House." I still remember hearing this one growing up " Special Number" as in, Brother Alex is now going to perform for us a "Special Number" on his guitar. "Lord, I just want to pray" Bugs me but we all do it " Reaching the Unchurched" As if people just need to get "churched". What are you pet-peeves or do you want to come to the defense of any of these?

This may be an odd one, but one of my pet peeves is when people are praying, and they say "Lord", "God", or "Jesus" too much. Seriously, would you talk to your worldy best friend like that? Example: "Lord, we pray that you will heal *insert name here*, and Lord I pray that you will be with him for a while while he recovers from this illness, and Lord I pray that this person will stay faithful to you during this experience, and in the Lord's name we pray" You wouldn't say to your best friend: "Austin, Do you want to go to the park tomorrow? And Austin, do you want to play baseball while we're at the park? Austin, while we're there want to buy a hot dog at the hot dog stand. Austin, I hope to see you there. Bye Austin." I think we should talk to God and our real life friends similarly in the same way. That's my pet peeve, if you understood what I said .

Alex, don't be rude. Pines is new to the forum! Just kidding. For those of you who don't know about the "monkey butt" it's not too late to get into the action. Check out this link: The PMB AwardN E Way, Yeah, pines, I totally know what you're saying. Bugs me too, especially when I find myself doing it!!!

I can see how this monkey butt award game can be an awkward placement here. Sandy, you need to know it has nothing to do with your post.

- If the Lord tarries
- (Insert name) "accepted" the Lord into his/her heart.

" Special Number" as in, Brother Alex is now going to perform for us a "Special Number" on his guitar. This is also a favorite of mine. When people use the word "number" that way, it always reminds me of a lounge lizard--as if Brother Alex were to start belting out "New York, New York." (--Of course, it might spice things up if the leader were to say something like: "Brother Alex is now going to share a number that--well, let's just say there's nothing very special about it, so I'd suggest that this would be a good time to peruse your bulletin...") My real pet peeve isn't a phrase or cliche, but a "thing" that happens during worship. (Oh-oh, it just occured to me I've never noticed if it's an Aletheia-ism! Hope no toes are dismembered...) It's when the teacher/pastor/speaker has finished teaching and we are starting to pray. All is going well until about a paragraph into the prayer when--- that mysterious instrumental music starts to play in the background... Yikes!!!! Does background music somehow give our prayers a little extra edge??? (Kind of like a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.) God: "Well, I wasn't really planning to answer that prayer just now--but I've always had a soft spot for The Old Rugged Cross, so I suppose I could bend the rules, just this once..."

Keep 'em coming guys. These are good! Oh, and don't be bashful if anyone wants to come in with a defense of any of these time-honored Christian traditions!

This isn't a cliche, but I have to admit that every time I hear a song that says "worship you" I always think "warsh a pew". Completely ruins the mood.

My favorite Christian Cliche is our use of the cross in as a decorative symbol. Iconically it has value in reminding us of the trinity. However, imagine if Jesus lived today? If he was executed by electric chair would we wear little electric chairs around our necks? What about glocks? Gaschambers? Gallows? or Shringes for the ever popular lethal injection. It strikes me as odd that the symbol of our religion is the means of our saviors execution.

"God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve"
I think I've heard that one more than enough!
