Fascinating. I've been reading up on this in several differenct sources. It's especially intersting about how African's don't carry the Neanderthal DNA.
I see this as potential evidence for a particular interpretation of that mysterious passage in Genesis that references some kind of illicit inter-species sex.
Genesis 6: 1-4 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
This new evidence might help solve the age-old dilemma as to whether this passage is referring to fallen angels or humans as the "sons of God". What if the answer all along was that the "sons of God" here refers to demon-possessed Neanderthals?
Now, I don't expect you to be too ready to sign onto that theory, Mo, with it's supernatural overtones. In fact, I'll bet this produces a chuckle. However, can you see a text like the one above as at least a latent collective memory of a time when men intermingled with another species?
