Ok, so I never really envisioned this for myself, but I have officially fallen in love with the idea of food gardening! I have grown tomatoes (what is better than tomatoes'n'basil, IMHO?) in pots for many years, and over the past few years Josh and I have added to that by planting vegetables in the veggie box that was already in our back yard when we purchased our current home. But I am entering a whole new level and getting really excited about it! I was told about a book, The Backyard Homestead, which explains how to organically raise enough food for a family of 4 on a small plot of land. I checked it out from the library and essentially read through it in one evening. I'm brimming with ideas and told Josh not to be surprised if one of these years I (we) turn the whole back yard into a vegetable garden. I wish I had more land (and more time) so that I could grow more of our food. I guess I'm going back to my roots - my grandparents grew most of their own food, baked homemade bread/pastries, had chickens for eggs, even made their own smoked sausage (the best sausage ever!), etc. I'm curious to know if anyone else out there has a desire to grow some of their own food?
Hmmm? I wonder if I could fit a chicken coop in our back yard?
