We'll be starting a study in the book of Judges soon (interspersed with our unChristian lessons), so I want to give people a heads up to read along and discuss Judges with us.

I would say that this is probably the most problematic book of the Bible in the mind of the skeptic. Contoversy surrounds it due to it's perceived 1) graphic violence, 2) heroes who are not role-models, even when seemingly under the power of the Holy Spirit, 3) degrading depictions of women and 4) jumbled history and exaggerative claims.
As we go through the book, you'll see what I mean.
Some have questioned whether the history books of the Old Testament truly fit under the category of inspired texts. Other seek to defend the text from such allegations.
Myself, while I am troubled by a few of these difficulties, I also see the book as at least generally historic and also useful for teaching and training by analogy in the faith. It also includes many memorable stories and dire warnings about sin and its consequences.
This is the Bible at it's wildest and wooliest.
