Ok, I'm still trying to figure out the quote thing so I'm not sure if I'm doing it right but here goes.... Sara, I am also DEEPLY insecure about my math skills Ugh! Huge math anxiety all through school so now I ask my husband to help my boys with their math homework because I don't want to "ruin" them :-)
Also, strange and random personal facts about myself:
I lived in a remodeled school bus with my hippy parents for about a year and we also went half way across the country in it for a family vacation to Montana & Wyoming...I think the goal was Illinois but it broke down so many times we took Amtrak the rest of the way to see my grandparents from Wyoming. Oh, and I drank and had drugs all by the time I was 8...Drunk at a party at 3 yrs old and marijuana brownies provided by my ever so responsilbe parents around age 7. Thankfully they "found Christ" again when I was 8 and it lasted for them at least until I was 18. Now they are back to their interesting ways.

Hmm, the school bus actually sounds like fun until you get to the breaking down part! I am also the child of hippieish parents (hence Peaches for a middle name) and the smell of marijuana always reminds me of my early childhood. For clarification purposes....it has been a long time since I had that sort of reminder of my childhood..jus sayin! The math was a really big deal for me, it even influenced my decision not to pursue a bachelor's degree in my chosen field. I decided to take it head on when I was in my late 20's. I took a few math classes in college and was amazed to discover that I could in fact learn math...it didn't come naturally, but I had a great teacher and was very proud to bring home A's! Now it will remain to be seen how helpful I am with homework, but that is still a few years off!

Ok, clearly I am not getting the quote stuff right but here goes another try. Sarah, I too let math get in the way of a chosen field but did the very same thing you did with facing it with classes later (MHCC for me) and understood things much better at that point. I still have math anxiety though that causes me to freeze up when trying to access it around other people. Crazy, I know.
The bus thing, yes it had some very fun aspects to it (especially traveling around in it) except when we just lived in it for a year. Suprisingly, the breaking down times provided some pretty memorable experience, some good, some bad, so I didn't even mind that part so much. We were broken down in a campground for a week or so and during that time a local bank was looking for a family in the campground to be in a commerical for them. I still remember "Thumbs up First National Bank Of Montana". I still don't get why they didn't want our cool school bus in the commercial though ;-)
I thought after reading back over my post that maybe I should add that after the early childhood experience with drugs and alcohol I was never interested in repeating that the rest of my childhood or adulthood for that matter. Early aversion therapy perhaps. Thankfully the Lord Jesus got ahold of my heart at 8 years old and I got to be immersed in a loving Christian community that strengthened me in my Faith throughout the rest of my childhood and early teens. Thank You Jesus!!!

I also hated math in high school and college until I actually had to teach it! Then I found I wasn't so bad at algebra and actually liked it.
