It follows this guy trying to make an independent film. The guy and his friends are interesting characters, you almost want to think it is a mockumentary. GREAT stuff, I highly recommend.

from imdb: On the northwest side of Milwaukee, Mark Borchardt dreams the American dream: for him, it's making movies. Using relatives, local theater talent, slacker friends, his Mastercard, and $3,000 from his Uncle Bill, Mark strives over three years to finish "Covan," a short horror film. His own personal demons (alcohol, gambling, a dysfunctional family) plague him, but he desperately wants to overcome self-doubt and avoid failure. In moments of reflection, Mark sees his story as quintessentially American, and its the nature and nuance of his dream that this film explores.

What about "Historical Fiction" its not a documentary, and it lays waste to most of the facts and evidence, yet it captures the essence and spirit of the times perfectly. I vote for the film "There Will Be Blood" and the rather vulgar TV Show "Deadwood" on HBO.

I just found something sadder than Marley & Me. It's a documentary called "Invisible Children". It is about the fighting in Southern Sudan/Northern Uganda and the affect it has had on the kids in that region. These kids that have seen so much war, fighting, blood. It's really horrifying.
I do not recommend trying to watch it while running on the treadmill.

Yay "This is It" it may not be a great historical artifact, but it is extremely entertaining and provides definitive evidence that Jackson was still a consummate talent. The only dancer I have ever seen superior to Jackson in this film, is the young Michael Jackson. The film opens with some of the best young dancers in the world flying in from places like Europe and Australia to audition in Los Angeles for the tour. They pick the cream of the crop. Later in the film Jackson dances circles around the extremely talented young people. Given the athletic and physical nature of dancing the fact that he was able to dance circles around some of the best young dancers in the world is quite a testimony to his nearly endless supply of energy and talent.

Can you explain "this is it" to me? When is the footage from? What is the most recent footage?

I like the PBS series about ordinary people with various hobbies: Collecting Santa Figurines, Cats, Giant Pumpkins, and Ferrets.
If you haven't seen them...
