Bill Mallonee Concert at Aletheia Christian Fellowship
Dec. 9, 2010 6:30 PM
“Bill Mallonee… continues to probe through Americana rock and roll proving that sometimes the only story worth telling is that of the journey”… Rolling Stone
“Mallonee’s songs give words to shadowy fears of intimacy, of its loss, even of the value of what he feels compelled to do”… USA Today
“The intelligence and intensity of Mallonee’s writing has elicited comparisons to Dylan… Given the consistency and quality of Mallonee’s work… he is arguably the first writer since John Prine to make the comparison plausible.” – New York Press
Hello friends of Aletheia Christian Fellowship,
I’m happy to announce that ACF will be hosting Bill Mallonee for a concert in our basement meeting space on Thursday December 9th at 6:30 PM. This will be a free concert, but space is limited, so please RSVP with me if you’d like to attend. We want to encourage you to invite friends who might benefit from Bill’s music or whom you’d like to introduce to ACF through a venue like this. Also, Bill will be performing some of his Christmas songs, so consider it a primer for the holidays.
Some of you are familiar with Bill Mallonee and his original band, Vigilantes of Love. He’s authored countless songs exploring folk, rock, alt, country (sometimes all four on one album). He’s hands down one of my top all time favorite lyricists. His music has explored themes as divergent as Vincent Van Gogh, the Dust Bowl, and Jack Kerouac, as well as his own personal struggles and hope in his journey of faith. He’s performed and recorded with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Buddy and Julie Miller, Mike Roe of the Lost Dogs, and many others. Unlike many musical artists of his caliber, he and his wife live a spartan life, often playing small venues such as pubs, small churches, and even private backyard barbeque shows. This concert will be held in our humble basement, a less formal, intimate setting in which we can interact with Bill (expect most of the musical selections to be on the folk side for this event). Bill’s music isn’t preachy but it nevertheless reveals genuine faith in the midst of even some of the most challenging human experiences. I wouldn’t hesitate to invite a friend who appreciates folk/rock/alt/country but is a little shy of attending a “church” event.
If have questions about Bill’s music or the event, please ask me. Since seating will be somewhat limited, please secure a seat for yourself and any friends you want to invite by simply responding to this email or calling me to lock yourselves in.
This concert is funded by the Aletheia Board of Directors. If you are a supporter of events like this, we encourage to donate whatever you are able to our special events fund the night of the concert.
