I think the DA guys have remained the same since the first Swirling Eddies album- but the Swirling Eddies are in constant flux.
Thematically Swirling Eddies made sense until Zoom Daddy, which although my favorite, was of course a major departure from theme. The album after that (Sacred Cows) claimed the Zoom Daddy was authored and performed by imposters, but then the latest Eddies album is more akin to Zoom Daddy than the others. Confusing. I think they just gave up on making it coherent and it's more like just one more creative outlet for Terry considering it takes a lot of effort for Daniel Amos to put out a record.

My favorite DA is a toss up between Darn Floor, Big Bite and Fearful Symmetry. My favorite Swirling Eddies has been Outdoor Elvis for a long time, but I just found The Midget, The Speck and the Molecule, and this may be my new favorite. Time will tell. I'm not a fan of country, so Lost Dogs never did anything for me, nor the early DA. But if TST comes to town, let me know! I'm really out of the Christian cultural loop... Darn Floor has really grown on me. Fearful Symmetry- interesting. Most don't list that as a favorite. I think my favorite is Songs of the Heart. Do you know that one well? Regarding Lost Dogs, you know that they're only about 30% country right? What about all the alt-rock? Some of there stuff is indiscernable from DA or SE, except with a variety of vocals. And Mike Roe is incredible on guitar. I think Terry Taylor himself is out of the Christian cultural loop, so that's no excuse anymore

Okay, then I'm out of the TST loop, then. I've only heard songs of the heart once, and it didn't do much for me. But I'm willing to try it again. I didn't know that about Lost Dogs. Clearly I need to examine their stuff more...

I just got this email >> A desperate plea from the friends of Terry TaylorTo any and all who been blessed by the life and gifts of Terry Taylor, It is with much regret that I come to you with a desperate prayer. Our dear friend and brother, Terry Taylor, is experiencing one of the direst personal struggles of his life. Since the cancellation of Catscratch, his financial situation has been dismal to say the least. His wife and daughter both teach at a pre-school to help make ends meet week to week but it hasn't been enough and two years ago they lost their home in foreclosure. As many of you know, Terry, who is uninsured, has had ongoing medical problems for the past five years, with last year being particularly troublesome and expensive. The bills have mounted steadily and the late fees continue to add more misery. Last month their little apartment was burglarized and items of great sentiment were stolen. As an unwanted culmination to one of the toughest years in the life of his family, this past weekend his daughter Noelle was rushed to the hospital and had to have emergency surgery to remove her gall bladder. He hasn't wanted us to share his story and burden his fans and we've been trying some creative new ideas to raise Terry's income but this last blow has broken the camel's back and nearly broken Terry's spirit. I know many of you would want to help our brother in this time of personal crisis. If we all gave $10 or $20 it would go a long toward relieving this burden for their family. Some of you may be able to give more; some less. Anything would help right now. We've set up a relief fund that can be donated to through Paypal. Please visit www.DanielAmos.com and click the donate link in the upper left corner. Be sure and click on "Update Total" after you enter the amount. If you'd like to donate in some other way, you can send checks or whatever to: Terry Taylor c/o Kings Road Music PO Box 86421 San Diego, CA 92138 I'll make sure all checks get to Terry. As always, every purchase at the Daniel Amos webstore will also help. thank you for hearing and for being the support you've been to Terry and his family for these many years. Sincerely and with much love and gratitude, Tom G., the Townsends, the Lost Dogs, and Terry's family

Good news: TST got enough money to make ends meet, for now.
More good news: Daniel Amos is going on tour!
Bad news: They are not visiting the northwest

I've been listening to DA and SE more recent stuff lately. I don't think they have the variety or energy that they had in the 80s... but frankly, I don't either At first blush, this was a problem, but after listening more, I find that I appreciate them more than ever. TST's lyrics are as clever as ever and the music, while lacking some of the old edge, is great. I understand they are doing a new album. I look forward to it.

Agreed. Looking forward to the new album as well.
Overall, what did you think of Mr. Buechner's Dream?

There are some songs that are masterful: The Author of the Story; Ribbons and Bows; Faithful Street; My Beautiful Martyr and some others. The rest of the album is forgettable. But I have to admit, it's a big album and I don't have as much opportunity to focus on music as I used to. I'm trying to decide if I like this album better or Motor Cycle-- there's a lot of good work on both albums.
