About Aragorn, yes. It's the modern obsession with the reluctant, pensive hero.
Tolkien included that theme with the hobbits. Did we really need Aragorn to go through it as well?
They did the same thing with Faramir, unfortunately.
But overall, I still absolutely love the films.

Karen's brother Erik has some good thoughts on the Hobbit (and LOTR in general) here: www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/01/hobbit-trailer/I particularly liked his comment about this clip from the Hobbit trailer: I can imagine no reason the Galadriel I know from the books would ever touch Gandalf like that. More than that, I can imagine no reason the maia (demi-god) Gandalf would ever, ever look at any elf with the kind of need you can see in that clip. Uh-oh! My friends, Peter, Fran, Phillipa, I beg you, please don’t make Gandalf needy!

Just found out that Peter Jackson is going to make the hobbit into 3 films now. Awesome decision or bad move, what say ye?

I for one am glad, despite naysayers. It's going to leave a lot of time for great "intertestimental" appendix material.

new trailer!
Notice that the "stone giants" which are only vaguely alluded to in book are going to make the film!

I'm excited! But I am also a little frightened that we will see another death of a Ranger of some kind in this movie.
It will be interesting to see how the other aspects of the story go. The Hobbit is such a perfect story, it needs no extra bits. BUT!! I wouldn't mind seeing some of those extra bits of Middle Earth during this time period. They are only very briefly mentioned in the book, so there must be a lot of other stuff he is drawing on, other books, notes of Tolkien's, etc...

One of the first things I noticed about Aragorn's character is that while he is very likable and heroic, he was not the driven and prophecy-knowing Ranger from the book. The book gives the impression that he knew what was asked of him, and that he was waiting for his time. The movie feels like he was avoiding his time, not in hiding till his time.
