So, I know there is a thread on the best movies of 2006, but I couldn't find one just for favorite movies, so I made my own ;D. This is kind of fun...
What movies do you all like?

Anyway here are some of my favorite movies of all time (these may include materials that are not suited (or very objectionable) for all audiences (please research throughly before watching). While I'm deffinately not condoning immoral actions that may be taken by some of the characters, it is really interesting to look to the overall motivations of the characters, to see what is meant past the facade. There's a bunch I've forgotten to include, and a few omitted, but here's a good look into my favs. Nausicaa Lady Hawk An Affair to Remember stuff with Lauren Bacall and Humphry Bogart Charade Somewhere in Time Sherlock Holmes Series (Jeremy Brett) All Creatures Great and Small (series) As time Goes by (series) Cowboy Bebop The Mission (very awesome) Trigun Wooster and Jeeves (Hugh Laurie) Blade Runner Stranger than Fiction Benny and Joone Anne of Green Gables/Avonley (series) Pride and Prejudice (BBC version) Northern Exposure (series) All about Eve 84 Charing Cross Road (though some aspects I don't like) Noir (kind of violent, but I have my own take on it) A Roman Holliday Ghost in the Shell Outland Dune origional Star Wars trilogy Six String Samurai (a 'B' grade movie, but well made) Mystery Science Theater 2000 (particularly This Island Earth) The Tick (cartoon) Robin Hood (Arrol Flynn) The African Queen Rear Window The Man Who Never Was Legend Without A Clue Grave of the Fireflies Green for Danger Mrs Miniver Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Red Beard Seven Samuri Monsoon Wedding Four Weddings and a Funeral The Fisher King (though it's been a while) The Professional To Kill a Mockingbird Dr. Strangelove Rainman Kiki's Delivery Service So ... this is a huge list (sorry) and I probably should have organized it better (by genre or something) but I have 2 kids and a puppy and a cat and 7 fish, and I don't have the will-power

Oooh, African Queen!!! I LOVE that movie! I love anything with Katherine Hepburn. She was such a feisty woman! And I love Humphry Bogart.
My all, all, all time favorite movie is A Few Good Men. I have no idea why I like it so much, but I do.
Some other faves of mine:
Pirates of the Carribean (I can't wait for May 25th!!!) Napoleon Dinamita (that's Spanish for Napoleon Dynamite!) French Kiss Tommy Boy Dumb & Dumber Return to Me Grease
Oh, and of course, Lord of the Rings...just kidding! ;D

Michelle- what were your thought on the second Pirates movie, btw?

I don't think any of them will ever compare to the first, but I did like it. I could watch the first one over and over again without getting tired of it. I don't feel the same way about the second. I'll probably watch it again before I go to see the 3rd one. I think I'll like the 3rd better than the second because I just LOVE Geoffrey Rush. I'm excited to have Barbosa back.

Ok, Nate, since you brought it up you're not getting off that easy. The story bears repeating.
So, Nate borrows my DVD of Rosewood on my good advice, but brings it back somewhat disappointed saying the movie didn't make a lot of sense.
I couldn't believe he didn't like it, so I plied him with questions.
Come to find out that the DVD has the movie on side A and B. Nate popped the DVD in on side B and started the movie half-way through. Now, granted, that's a strange format for a DVD, but I had to laugh at how he didn't pick up on the fact that he missed 1/2 of the movie even after he was finished. Thus, his mild response to a great movie.
A classic moment in movie watching history.

Michelle-
I actually liked the second Pirates better than the first! (pretty much everyone else disagrees with me). I must have been in a particular mood when we were watching it, because I kept thinking while I was watching it that I probably normally would have felt it was "ho-hum", but for some reason at that time I just 'felt it'- like all the archtypical plot elements were just doing it for me. Most of all, I guess I just liked the mood and the Pirate theme (especially the whole Davy Jones thing) resonates with some boyish intrigue within me. But the whole father-son theme, the return of Barbossa, etc.., while they were somewhat cliche, really worked, I thought.
The only thing I remember that I disliked were some of the laboriously long fight scenes, but, oh well.

I haven't seen that one in a while, I think I have it on VHS.

20 second top of mind list, although it's an otherwise full topic deserving of thought and subcategories,
Redbeard (well made and with great vision) Fistfull of Dollars ("You see, my mule don't like people laughing.") A Time to Kill (great summary monologue)

May 17th: the Dalek
Man, I've got to see the Daleks again! The most sinister pepper grinders in the galaxy.
Did you know the Pizza Shmitza I think in Mall 205 (or is it in Gresham?) has a Dalek hanging from the ceiling?
And the Dalek's leader... Devros? Was that his name?
So, I always thought the funny think about the Daleks was that they were really intimidating on smooth floor surfaces, but what would they have done if they actually had to go outdoors?
And who were those other baddies with the metal suits that looked like they were having a real hard time walking?
I'll have to get my dad on here...

Lol So, as I have not seen most of the Dr. Who episodes I had to look up Daleks, they do look amazingly like salt shakers! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Daleknew.jpgI have to say, as to the believability of the deadlieness of the enemy, the bubble things from 'The Prisoner' are the least believable for me, large-ish baloons that suffocate. (I always wondered why the hero didn't just carry a pin?) ;D

How about favorite movies as a kid?
Justus and I just watched The Secret of Nimh, which, it turns out, I still love.
I'd have to put The Last Unicorn, The Hobbit, and Watership Down in the mix as well.
